The first thing to come to an understanding of is that chiropractic properly utilized is not for the treatment of back pain.  With that misconception removed from the discussion here, the truth is that EVERYONE on this planet benefits from chiropractic and should be seen on a regular basis.   A child’s spine is no different in design than an adult.  It protects delicate nerve fibers that send vital messages from the brain to every organ, gland and cell of the body.  The difference is in its supporting tissues causing it to be much more fragile.  The muscles and ligaments around it are not fully developed and the bones are not fully solidified, making a child’s spine prone to subluxations (misalignments producing nerve interference).

Now consider a child’s entrance into this world.  On their birth date, their delicate spine is put through significant stress during the birth process.  For most of us, this was when our first subluxation occurred.  And if by chance that did not create a subluxation, fast forward 9-12 months to that child learning to walk.  They take thousands of falls. They pull themselves up and then fall on their backends sending a shockwave of stress through the spine.  It is estimated by OSHA that by the time a child is 11 they have experienced at least 7000 spinal traumas. And once a child learns to walk and enters the toddler years, their spirit of adventure leads them to diving into couches, jumping off beds, and tumbling down stairs.  I have three children, one of whom is at this stage currently so I can attest to how fearless a toddler can be!

The point is, parents make time for and value routine checkups for their children at a pediatrician, dentist, and optometrist but draw a blank when it comes to spinal checkups at a chiropractor.  Not because they don’t care for their children, but because they were never taught how vital chiropractic is for their growing child. A spinal checkup is hands down one of the most important checkups your children will ever have! Their optimal growth and development depend upon a healthy spine and fully functioning nerve system.  When they are subluxated and the life channels of their spine are closed down, their expression of life to the body is interfered with and they are living at less than their best.  Chiropractic will open up their life to a whole new world of possibilities allowing them to reach their God-given potential. So, I encourage each and every parent out there to have their child checked regularly for vertebral subluxation and put them on the path of abundance in health and in life!

Why Should Children Get Adjusted?

When I speak to parents of the vital importance of having their children adjusted regularly throughout childhood, you can only imagine that I get quite a few raised eyebrows. And I understand why. We live in a society that is conditioned to only go to the doctor when they are sick. If a child is not sick, why should they go to a chiropractor for an adjustment? I am here to share with you a different way of viewing life so that you and your family can create abundant health and a great quality of life!

The truth is, a child’s body is growing, developing and working to adapt to the environment at an astonishing rate. Think about this; everything that a young child comes into contact with from birth is brand new to them. Whether it is changing temperatures, viruses, bacteria, “germs”, toxins in the environment, or people and relationships, their bodies are being constantly bombarded with stimuli. It is the role of their nerve system to perceive, organize and adapt to all of these new experiences so that they build an internal resistance. If their nerve system is functioning at its optimal potential, then the child will adapt beautifully and have a greater opportunity for a healthier life. But if the nerve system is interfered with and unable to fully adapt and organize their body, then the child will experience less than optimal life and health.

The nerve system becomes interfered with by what is known as a Vertebral Subluxation. This is a misalignment in a spinal vertebra that is impeding the flow of nerve impulses from the brain out to every organ, gland and cell in the body. It is during the birth process that most of us received our first subluxation and then continue to become more subluxated throughout childhood. So, doesn’t it make sense that a child should be checked and adjusted for subluxation throughout childhood so that their body can reach optimal potential in life and health? A body with a healthy spine and nerve system ALWAYS functions better than one with subluxation!
