PREGNANT WOMEN

“There is a power that comes to women when they give birth.
They don’t ask for it; it simply invades them. Accumulates like clouds on
the horizon and passes through, carrying the child with it.”

PREGNANCY AND CHIROPRACTIC

Chiropractic care in pregnancy is vital for both the mother and baby in order for the body to coordinate and control all of the beautiful changes that take place. Chiropractic care is a gentle and non-invasive approach to stabilizing the spine and pelvis and reducing nerve interference, resulting in greater harmony during pregnancy and in birth. Because a woman’s body experiences dramatic changes during pregnancy; structurally, hormonally, and emotionally, Chiropractic offers the opportunity for a more comfortable and enjoyable pregnancy and paves the way for an easier, safer birth.

Body changes in the pregnant woman are inevitable for the growth and arrival of baby. They do carry with them common secondary changes in the body such as aches and pains (low back pain, sciatica, pubic bone and tailbone pain), heartburn, constipation, reflux, fatigue, mood swings, sleeping difficulty, and even baby position and progression of birth.

By focusing on locating and correcting vertebral subluxation (misaligned bones of the spine) throughout the pregnancy, we are giving the nervous system back the power to adapt to structural changes and the millions of hormonal and chemical changes in mother and baby.  This ultimately leads to improved quality of life and birth outcomes.  We have hundreds of patients who attribute a shorter and easier birth to being under regular chiropractic care throughout their pregnancy.

Once baby arrives, mom continues under care to help the spine and pelvis realign and the body adapt to the new physical, chemical and emotional challenges of motherhood.  Moms also get baby checked and adjusted for vertebral subluxation which is one of the most important things to do upon their arrival into this world.

Pregnancy and Birth Story

At Radix we believe that pregnancy and birth is one of the most natural things that a women’s body is designed by God to do. That is why when you get adjusted regularly throughout your pregnancy, the pregnant body will work in the perfect way to create a baby, and give birth. Experiencing the pregnancy and birth of your dreams is what we strive to deliver through Chiropractic care! In this section, we will share the pregnancy and birth stories of our Radix mommas who have been under Dr. Ryan’s care during their pregnancy and birth time.

On June 11th on my daughter’s due date at 5 am is when my water broke. Things got real, really fast. My chosen friends and family and doula who came to my house that morning tried to tell me in a gentle way that I was only at the beginning. However, for me, the surges/contractions felt uncomfortable and harder than I was expecting from the beginning. I remember telling my husband alone in the bathroom not to listen to anyone that this baby was coming fast! We were encouraged to labor at home as long as possible. So, most of my birthing time was at home in my living room, and shower. Around 9 am, I got adjusted in our office space at home – and it made a profound impact. The surges became so much more intense and closer together. We were ready to go to the birth center 30 minutes later. When we arrived, I went straight into the bathtub. At that point, I was dilated to a 9. My baby came an hour and a half later. The after-birth experience was incredible. I got to grab my baby out of the water and hold her on my chest. No one was trying to clamp the umbilical cord prematurely. There was no rush. It was peaceful and beautiful to be around like-minded people who were not trying to ‘medicalize’ birth. I felt amazing for the next 3 days – like walking on a cloud and full of joy.

The biggest thing I learned through giving birth is that the expectations you have will have a profound impact on how your birth will turn out. Are you expecting trauma? Are you expecting it to last 48 hours? Or do you believe that birth is one of the most natural experiences that a women’s body is designed to do? The coolest expectations that I had which came to pass was my baby coming ON her due date (which is what I told everyone would happen – not a day earlier or later) And also, it happening fast! There should be zero fear about anything going wrong. Especially with the added confidence of having proper baby positioning from receiving the webster technique which Dr. Ryan is certified in. I truly believe that the environment, mindset, and people who surround you during your birth time matters exponentially.
